Over the course of the next eight weeks, we will be examining concepts … to nursing research and the translation of evidence to practice. To help you better understand the process, you will be identifying a practice issue for nurse practitioners. You will develop a PICOT question associated with the issue, find evidence to support a change in practice, and present your recommendations for change to your peers. This week, we will work on helping you refine your area of interest so that you will be able to develop a concise question for next week’s assignment. You are … the area of interest you chose for the project in NR500NP and/or NR501NP; however, you may choose a different area if you wish.
Select an issue in nurse practitioner (NP) practice that is of interest to you and in which you would like to see a practice change occur. Conduct a review of the literature to see what is currently known about the topic. In 1-2 paragraphs, describe the scope and relevance of the issue and your recommended change. Provide reference support from at least two outside scholarly sources to support your ideas.

Requirements
Description of the Assignment
This assignment will allow the student to identify a nursing practice concern or problem within their chosen MSN specialty track. For this course, the selected practice concern or problem and nursing theory then serve as a foundation to the identification of PICOT question. Identification of the literature search terms will prepare you for your Week 7 assignment. The purpose of the assignments in this course is to translate evidence currently found in the literature into practice within the chosen MSN specialty track.
Criteria for Content

- Describe the practice concern/problem.
- Why is this concern/problem important to nursing and healthcare?
- What is the scope of the concern?
- What evidence is there for the need for change?
- Include a minimum of two scholarly sources.
NOTE: Do not rewrite/include the above questions in your template information.
- Define each element of your PICOT question in one or two sentences.
- P-Population and problem – What is the nursing practice concern or problem and whom does it affect?
- I-Intervention – What evidence-based solution for the problem would you like to apply?
- C-Comparison – what is another solution for the problem? Note that this is typically the current practice, no intervention at all, or an alternative solutions.
- O-Outcome – Very specifically, how will you know that the intervention worked? Think about how you will measure the outcome.
- T-Time frame – For the purpose of the EBP project, keep the timeframe within 6-8 weeks.

- Write your PICOT question in the standard PICOT question format (narrative) and define each letter (separately). See the example below.

Requirements
Description of the Assignment: This continues the development of a MSN EBP scholarly project by identifying and reviewing a minimum of ten scholarly, peer-reviewed research articles in support of the practice change intervention identified in the PICOT question.

Criteria for Format and Special Instructions
Use the designated Research Summary Table Template. The title page, which is APA formatted is part of the template. No reference page is necessary since each article will be identified and placed in APA format within the table.
Title page and references must follow APA guidelines as found in the current edition of the manual.
All scholarly, peer-reviewed research articles must be current – within a 5-year time frame unless a valid rationale is provided and the instructor has approved the use of the older reference.
