Research Methodology Assignment
Guidelines:
You need to choose ONE article each from Qualitative Articles folder (file name Article 1 to Article 6) and Quantitative Articles folder/ Group (file name Article I to Article VI) do your coursework according to the following guidelines.
Analyse these articles from the point of view of Research Methods Employed. That is, the focus of your analysis should be research methodology involved in the selected articles and not the subject area covered by the articles. For example: the article may be discussing Financing of small businesses or Corporate governance related issues. You should not focus on them. You need to focus on the Methodology/ methods used in the article.
What is expected from you?
Identify in the selected articles various elements of Research Methodology covered in the lectures such as:
(a) Research approach employed in the article (Phenomenology/ Positivist; Qualitative/Quantitative)
(b) Literature Review
(c) Research Questions/ Hypotheses
(d) Various components of the Research Design involved
(e) Case study/ Events study
(f) Questionnaire survey/ Interviews
(g) Other methods of data collection
(h) Sampling
(i) Data Analysis employed, if any
(j) Measurements and Scales employed
(k) Identify various secondary sources of data by analysing the Bibliography (i.e. journal article, books, conference papers, official document, etc.)
Once you identified various elements of Research Methodology employed in the selected articles, critically comment on them expressing your views on why and how these elements are used/ employed by the author(s) of each article.
This you should structure them separately in 2 different sections.
Then you need to summarise and conclude in a separate section combining what is your understanding of the Qualitative vs. Quantitative approach in research, and what are the differences you observed between the two articles which distinguish qualitative and quantitative research.
Structure of the Coursework
The structure of the CW should be:
Section 1: Introduction section where you can discuss your theoretical understanding of methodologies and methods with proper references.
Section 2: Discussion of Article 1
Section 3: Discussion of Article 2
Section 4: Summary & Conclusion
Notes:
(a) Once you identified various elements of Research Methodology employed in the selected articles, critically comment on them expressing your views on why and how these elements are used/ employed by the author(s) of each article (Approx. 1000 words each).
(b) You may not be able to locate and identify all the components of research methodology as listed above in every article. So, try to identify as many as possible.
(c) Then you need to summarise and conclude in a separate section combining what your understanding of the Qualitative vs. Quantitative approach in research, and what are the differences you observed between the two articles which distinguish qualitative and quantitative research.
